Hula Hoop Tricks: “Leg Sweeping Wedgies”
I watched a hoop performance recently, and had a specific hula hoop trick catch my eye. Leg Sweeping Wedgies! It sounds weird, but it is one flashy dynamic trick. The performer, Mari Cunningham, sent me a tutorial link, which I am passing onto you today!
Mari (Merrily Spins), is a wife, mother, student, and burlesque hoop dancer from Bella Vista, Arkansas. She has been hooping since 2008, and is currently the Assistant Creative Director of Violetta Lotus Burlesque. Mari is also the producer of Glitz, Glamour, and Dreams burlesque show, and placed top 5 in the 2013 Hooping Idol.
Hip hop and ballet have always been an interest of mine. I did do a lot of hip hop dance growing up but never got to do ballet. That didn’t stop me from spinning, jumping, and prancing around the house anyway….even as an adult.
Mari has performed at events such as Bentonville Square First Fridays, Kinfolk Festival, 
Firefly Fling, and the NWA Juggling Festival. She is currently working on a new routine for an annual masquerade show on May 30th in Fayetteville, AS, and is developing a new show called, “In Your Wildest Dreams,” featuring the ladies and gents of Violetta Lotus Burlesque. There will be 2 showings on August 9th at Teatro Scarpino in Fayetteville in case any of you Hoopers are local!
