Three Tips for Outside Exercise

When the sun is out and you don’t want to be cooped up in the home, head outdoors. One of the best ways to have fun and to get fit is to exercise outdoors. The fresh air, the sunlight, and the overall relaxation that being outdoors can bring makes this the perfect place for you to be when it comes to getting fit and getting active. When you are at home inside, you may be tempted to use that stationary bike or treadmill for your workouts. When you go outdoors, though, you don’t need to spend a lot of money on equipment. So, how can you get in a solid workout when you are outside? These tips will help you.

Use Equipment You Already Have Around the Home

Do you have a football or basketball available? That makes for a great cardio workout. Another option is to look for a hula hoop. Getting into the swing of things using the hoop will give you a full workout and a great afternoon of laughs and fun. If you do not have any toy or sport like items around, think outside of the box. For example, mowing the lawn with a push mower can be an excellent way to get in a workout. You can also use steps to get fit. Look around your area and find something you can do that will get you sweating.

Use Nature as a Workout Companion

Another way to enjoy the outdoors and to get some exercise in is to focus on what nature has provided. If there is a nearby park, go for a long walk. Walk faster or slower to control your heart rate. Be sure to vary this so that your body does not get used to the area. You’ll appreciate small and larger hills that can help you to boost your workout a bit. Hike through the woods, chop some firewood, or run a few blocks up and down your street.

Make It Fun

Soaking up that sunlight is one of the most important parts of the outdoor exercise regimen because it is very hard for people to get enough Vitamin D in their diets otherwise. However, in order to make it fun and more likely that you will stay outdoors long enough to get enough Vitamin D, you’ll need to find ways to make exercising outdoors fun. Swim with a group of friends. Host a dance party in your backyard on the deck for an hour a day. You can also walk or run with friends or with music to ensure that you are enjoying yourself. Whatever you do, make sure you enjoy what you are doing so that you keep at it.

Take a few minutes to get yourself dressed and out of the house. For today’s workout, just go for a walk up and down the street. People watch, listen to the birds, and simply take in a bit of outdoor time. You’ll love the way you feel after this type of workout.
